Natural Cure for Acidity, heartburn and/or ACID reflux

Updated on March 14, 2012

Tips to control heartburn

Hubbers, when I was visiting my hub stats, I felt that tangy pain-causing liquid in my throat and I thought I have been keeping it like a secret (though it may not be for many of you who know it).

I thought why do not I help this community be aware of these treatments, if they are mot already. I had this situation for over 6 years and have devised my own ways of controlling it. So here it goes:

Why it occurs?

The Acidity or Acid reflux, Heartburn or anything we call it, all have irritating painful feeling, if you have experienced it after eating.

Millions of tiny pumps in our stomach lining generate acid to break down food we chew. Our lower esophageal sphincter (LES) works as a door. By its opening/closing mechanism it lets the food pass from esophagus into stomach and prevent the ACIDs from coming out. When the body produces extra acids and our LES is relaxed, the excess acids flow up, or reflux, into the esophagus. This creates the painful sensation of heartburn. Well medical experts can explain it better and in detail. However what I understand is the word “excess”.

My Theory!

In Chemistry classes during my college days, I learnt that ACID and BASE neutralize each other as they carry opposite ph value. Bearing that understanding in my mind I started finding natural ways to reduce ACID. I am not sure if I am correct with the concept however I am sure the treatment I based on this hypothesis is working like a magic for me as well as my friends.

Here are those that work for me and for my friends who used it. Please note that I would describe my condition between low to medium and following steps for 7-10 days I get 2-3 months of relief:

REMEDIES

WATER: Drink 1-2 glass of water for every meal . keep a lag of 15-20 minutes between meals and water

MILK: Just before sleeping, take the refrigerator cold milk (4 to 8 FL OZ : half or full glass, as your appetite allows). No sugar please as it works in opposite direction

MINT: Eat 8-10 mint leaves twice a week, if possible make 1-2 leaves as essential part of your meal

Fennel Seeds: Eat Fennel seeds. A quarter to half spoon is enough for a day

WALK: Walk 10 - 20 minutes after every meal but at least after night meal

MEALS: Do not eat beyond your capacity at all. If possible leave 5% space for hunger. If possible, eat small quantities 5 times a day than 3 times a day

ANTACIDS: Keep child-strength dosage of TUMS handy. Chew 1-2 per day, contains BASE formulae. Having antacids before meal and preferably for dinner, has helped a lot. These are days when I am partying every other day on at least one meal.

Disclaimer

Since I am talking about the health treatment, I would like to make sure that I am not held responsible for something I would never intend.

Please note that this article is for sharing the treatments that worked for me. If you have severe conditions, please consult your doctor for proper medication and procedures. This article in no means is intended to guarantee the cure.
